So far I leave the segmenting to the experts. Mark James kindly sold me a couple of blanks to replace the three of his that sold already. They sell, as expected, for a premium price.
Included was an amboyna burl Sierra that turned out well.
All were turned with a sharp 1" roughing gouge to close to size, then a small 2" radius carbide tool to finish sizing. Sanded laterally with both 400 grit sandpaper and 400 grit Abranet and cleaned with alcohol. After drying, 4 coats of EZ Bond thin CA, a LIGHT spray of stickfast accelerator, 12 coats of thin 50 cps EZ Bond pen finish with a LIGHT accelerator after each coat. I let them cure for 2-3 hours or overnight, sanded with 400 grit and buffed on the first two Beale buffs. Sometimes with wood with voids I use 16 coats of 50 cps CA.
"Mal is this what you requested?"
