After reviewing one of the articles in IAP and with a few twists, I decided to dip a few pens and now I’m hooked. Using 1/4 bolts and some insets a few pieces of scrap wood, this was the outcome. Like the article suggested, taking the wood down enough to allow the thickness of the finish to be flush with the nubs. I do use “0000” steel wool for a fine polish between coats. Generally two coats as a minimum. On wood with a rough grain I will use either thin CA glue or a buffing finish to first seal the wood.
