Monday was a weird day. Went to the shop to do a little casting. Set up and preheated the oven. Set up molds fine so far poured resin in cup, put it in the oven (did this many times before) walked into other room of shop for a part came back. FIRE!!! It was in the oven and getting bigger. I grabbed the extinguisher and shot the oven. The oven flashed back up. I unplugged the oven opened the door shot it again with the extinguisher then threw it outside. It did not flair back up.
No loss other than the oven, a jacket and some resin.
50 year old building could have gone quick. I got real lucky.
I think I will check out using an old crock pot to pre heat my resin.

Yeah... what would have happened if you din't have a fire extinguisher in working order...????

The moral of the story is, buy and install a good fire extinguisher in a accessible area entry point normally, $50 bucks can safe your your day, there is, your house, your shed, your tools, and your life and or others...!

Glad that didn't turn out in a tragedy!

Cheers

Mark, go get a mug warmer (basically a hot plate that doesn't get too hot). That should be plenty to warm resin and shouldn't be a danger unless something nibbles on the wires.

Glad to hear you got it out, reminds me to renew my quest for CO2 extinguishers.

What have I said many times?? You got lucky, it could have been much worse.
Anyone want to put resin in an oven?

Nice catch,
In the future be cautious when you opened the door to it you added O2 which would fuel the fire or cause a ball of flames to shoot at you. At times even though its instinct it may be better to unplug oven leave the inside on fire and drag it outside if necessary. leave door closed and do "exposure control" on the outside of the oven while stading by with the extiguisher ensuring nothing else gets burnt. the Insides of ovens are built to stand heat over 800 degrees. So fire is no big deal its the smoke that will get ugly. I have seen this too many times. I keep a 20lb ABC ext in my shop. But doing what I do gets "perks" when it comes to fire stuff.
