Here is a petite stemmed goblet I finished up. It is turned from Walnut, 1 7/8" diameter at top, 1 1/2" diameter base, and 4 3/4" tall. Finish is EEE cream and Renaissance Wax. The stem will flex if twisted.

Beautiful! I'd say "Look, don't twist."

Edit: Looking again, the proportions are wonderful; an eye for symmetry in the design process makes a huge difference for the initial appearance (aka, Cindy Drozda). Very well done.

Nice! What is the diameter of the stem?

Thanks! It measures 0.149... 3.7mm....1/8"+

That's some delicate turning. How did you support it while turning the stem?

Hey Cody! The cone center attachments for my OneWay live center didn't fit the top of the goblet so I used a wooden piece screwed onto the live center with a tapered nose that fit the inside of the base better. I padded it with paper towel.
As the stem got down to size, I made sure I didn't have much pressure from the tailstock.....just support.
I also was careful to start my lathe and speed up slowly so there wouldn't be torque on the stem and twist it off. I believe with a closed grain wood such as maple, cherry, etc, I could have gone with a thinner stem....but I think this one was is appropriately sized for the goblet.
