I have a Jet 1 micron dust collector and it does just that- collects my tool's dust. I was getting tired of cleaning it out, a job that took about a hour. I had another device to capture the dust but too much still entered the Jet. The blue barrel in the photos was my first try at this problem.

To reduce the stuff that entered the Jet I installed an Oneida 4" Dust Deputy. The installation was quick and now far less stuff even enters the Jet. The cyclone action is very good at keeping the particles within the Oneida unit. It takes a couple of minutes to empty the Oneida drum and it gets filled up fast.

Now I think the system is complete.

Very nice upgrade! I have the small dust deputy on my shop vac and it works fantastic. I use the shop vac to clean up and everything goes into the dust deputy instead of into the shop vac. No more spending time cleaning the shop vac filter because of the fine dust clogging it.

I am modifying a HF 2HP collector and setting it up with a filter from Wynnenv. The filter alone will improve the cfm. Planning to add the Super Dust Deputy. I may go for the 5" inlet and 5" pipe, at least for the first part of the run. Then switch to 4" pipe and drops to the tools.

Does anyone notice a loss of suction?

There may have been a little but I can't be sure as I installed a 1 micron pleated filter instead of the bag around the same time and I think I have a little more suction now, but I am pretty sure the increase was because of the filter giving much more surface area for the air to move through.

You will loose suction going to a 2 stage system (adding a separator) which is all the more reason to add a better filter. The Wynn env 35A filters dramatically increase the surface area of filtration. The one I have has 274 sq. ft. of MERV 15 Nanofiber media and is easily cleaned with an occasional blast of air at 60 psi.
