Todays question has to do with epoxy glues. For years I have used SystemIII T88 epoxy as my go to epoxy for everything including segmenting acrylics to metals and wood. I have used JB-Weld 8280 epoxy for metal to metal mostly.

My question is I want to do some segmenting work using brass to brass, aluminum to aluminum and combination of both. The ideas I have will have a high pucker factor when being turned. Not worried about drilling.

Is there a stronger epoxy weather a one part or a two part stronger than JB-Weld and if so what is it and where to get it???. Have you had hands on experience with it??? Can it be tinted black if it does not come black??? With todays advancements in every area I just thought I would throw it out here. I know from watching this site that there are not many segmenters and not many that use metals but maybe in the auto industry or aviation industry there maybe a product worthy of a try. Thanks for the feedback.

I tell you what JT. I don't know if it is epoxy, I assume it is but I haven't asked yet but I am going to, maybe when I go in for my yearly cleaning this month I think. But whatever the dentist uses to glue in crowns and bridges is some strong stuff. Might be cost prohibitive or really hard to get but it seems pretty tough stuff to me.

I used to work for a pump manufacturer. We used a Loctite product to hold bearings in place that worked very well though it wasn't cheap. You first applied Loctite 7471 to prime the area and then applied Loctite 680 Green to glue things in place. Not sure it would work for this metal to metal application but just a thought.

I know what you mean Curt. I am in the process right now of getting a crown. I will be going in at end of the month to get fitted. I may ask him too. :)

It will be interesting to see what you find. I have limited experience with turning metal glued to wood and settled on JB based on its rated temp tolerance. It was only slightly better than plain epoxy. Interestingly when I googled cross-linked metal glue a dental glue was in the top hits. It is set with UV light, sunlight should do it.

Some UV cure glues are epoxy. Problem with this application is that the light to cure will not pass through metal or wood. The glue has to see the light to cure.

I was watching a Youtube video about some changes a man had made to his metal lathe and he used the Loctite green to glue brass pegs into a steel block. Not sure what number it was, just remembered that it was green.

I have a full body aluminum BUCK DEER. The wind blew it over and broke its horns into 4 sections. I made a jig to hold the horn together and tried several glues and they all failed. Finally I tried something from.

The Golf Works.
Shaftline Epoxy EPX4
Black 1.1 mix
Part A & B
1-800-848-8358

It works beyond belief.

Ordered some and will give it a try. My metal just came in today. Will hopefully get a chance to play some in the shop soon. :) Thanks.
