So I'm loaded up and ready to head to Chuck's house tomorrow. We're having a weekend get together to cast and do whatever we want!! Will be me Dalecamino, Mark James, RKimery, and Mr Duck's. Mr. Ducks is providing his shop for all experiments! We are also gonna brainstorm at getting the Indy Chapter back up and running. So if you see a Blue Subaru headed up 65 North with Banjo Music Blaring, and resin coming out of the exhaust, just beep the horn! It will be the one with a Dead Head sticker on the back!!

Ribs from the dead pig in the fridge. Applewood chips from cutting pen blanks ready for the smoker. AC on in the shop. Merle Haggard's greatest hits ready on the stereo. Lol.

I forgot about the Pig we sacrificed for this meetup!! Man, i'm ready to hit the road now!! But will have to wait until 6pm tomorrow!! I'll be leaving straight from work. And hopefully we have a late night dinner at the Legendary Waffle House :)

I'm a new turner as of this year from Indiana, less than an hour away from Indy. I'd definitely be interested in participating in a group!

Its going to be discussed. I have a list of IAP registered members from Indiana and Kentucky. There are close to 200 names. Maybe in conjunction with the Chicagoland doing so well in the North, a Southern Indiana group can be established.

200?? Maybe we can rent the Convention Center

Wait a minute.....how much are dues????? [emoji15]

Too soon to give you an exact amount right now. In the past, dues have been very little. I mean, you won't have to mortgage the house.
Let us get things rolling, and keep an eye on this thread, and watch for others.

I've heard Steve in concert several times. Here's a good one, Enjoy!! Now to get Mark to teach me how to play!!!

I actually did take banjo lessons while at IU. Alas, the skills eluded me. But there is still a 5 string in my basement.

Well....can you play a Telecaster like a Banjo?

A few pictures

Today was a great small gathering. Ernie Borraga, Chuck Hutchings, Randy Kimery, Mike Drake (Hosting) and myself. The bantering, casting and turning began at 9 AM finishing around 4 PM with an incredible meal of smoked Ribs and side dishes in between.

Thank you to the Drake's for a great day.

(And a special thanks to our non-photogenic IAP member who provided the day's entertainment... Thanks "F.L." it wouldn't have been the same without you).

Mmmmmm.....I'm not convinced....

No turning mess on the floor.....
Nobody covered up to their eyebrows in dried resin...
No Bud cans littering the work benches...
Too many chairs and sitting going on....
Nobody chomping down on a rib while assembling a pen....
No 'Dueling Banjos '.....

Looks more like a Woman's Institute Crochet Club meeting to me....

Just pulling your legs..... Wish I was a bit closer and I would have gate crashed....

Steven... Thanks for stopping in! We would love to have had you join in. Including me!

Yes, plenty of sitting on my part. Body doesn't tolerate gravity much at all these days.

I fed Mark and Ernie a good Waffle House breakfast and sent them off to catch up on there chores at home. We''ll be gathering again at Marks house in Medina, Ohio in about 5 weeks.

It was a really enjoyable weekend.

We actually did clean up after ourselves. Shirts and pants did get dirty, no inbibing in the shop (later, maybe a dram or two), some great casts, some failures both with casting and turning. It was actually more of experimenting and turning some new stuff to tweak process and design. Plans for a few future designs are well under way.

Anything related to penturning, casting and segmenting was far secondary than friendship, conversation and learning how to operate an electric smoker for ribs... (a band saw was first on the list, it has gotten bumped to second place for a new toy - my stomach sets priorities at times).

FYI, anyone and everyone that can visit is invited to the November Ohio Chapter meeting.

So here are my pics from the trip I'm still amazed at the generosity and friendships i've made over the years because of IAP.

My trip started off rough. Doom and Gloom followed by a 10 mile backup where at one point I was going 0mph!!! And yes, there was Banjo Music, Bourbon, Great food, Wonderful stories, and awesome memories. We also played around a little with some experiments!! I'm gonna post our PR experiment in another thread.

I want to thank the Drake's for hosting this wonderful get together! They also said the Ribs were a little dry, but in my book, they were top notch!! The watermelon and Potatoes Au Gratin were superb as well! It's country cooking at it's finest. And Skiprat, You missed an awesome meal

We're planning on meeting up at Mark's house in November. So if any Ohio guys want to meet the Banjo Playing Redneck from Ky, you should come by. Mark made a post in the Ohio thread. I'd love to meet a few, and i'll supply the Bourbon and Apple Pie!!
