Lighter Bocote

This is a lighter in gunmetal, from CSUSA. The wood is some very nice bocote (thanks Dave!). Kind of a tedious kit. It requires a 37/64" drill bit, so it has large tubes. But it turned out pretty good. The finish is Mylands friction polish and carnuba wax.

Since the bit is so big, and the cap is so short, I decided to drill the bodies together then cut them apart.

There is no 17/32" pilot for my barrel trimmer, so I turned an acrylic spacer. Worked out pretty good.

Very nice, Jim! Its funny, you said lighter bocote, and I feel it has a dual meaning. That bocote looks fairly light in color...and, its a flame-producing lighter.

I'm always impressed by how your wood matches up so well with the kit parts. I still struggle with that...I think it may be some of the bushings, that are just not true themselves, but sometimes it seems to be my setup as well (I TBC, but, even with TBC bushings, sometimes things just don't turn entirely true, and it can take a lot of fiddling to get the rotation of the bushing and rotation of the centers aligned to minimize any runout.)

Thank you for the compliments. I never thought about it, but "Lighter Bocote" could have a second meaning. I've tried TBC a couple of times, but don't like it. I like using the bushings. I try to be careful to get the material as close as possible to the bushing. I very slightly under turned the lighter, but it's not bad.
